Our longest battle yet. Mabuchi seems to have an endless amount of HP, and having to face his underlings prior to the boss battle only serves to add more length to the battle.

Adachi has reclassed into Enforcer prior to the battle, but his low job level means his stats are lagging behind the rest of the party and he runs out of MP almost instantly. Enforcer is amazing offensively, though, so the effort to train the job is warranted, and Paralysis Prongs is learnt when this battle is over thanks to the 0.3x exp / job experience.

Eri is a level short of unlocking the Dealer class, which boasts incredible DPS, and gets there after this fight. She is the least useful member in this one, since at least Saeko's healing is needed much of the time. It can also, arguably, be replicated by items, and it's not until the second phase of the battle, where Mabuchi gets a permanent attack buff, that multiple allies can be targeted at once.

Eri is important for keeping everybody's MP high, though, and I experiment with the Drunk-inflicting items too much. I'd never seen anyone attack fellow party members while Drunk, but the status's penchant for making the afflicted members miss turns explains why sometimes bosses have double and triple turned Ichi during the solo part. There's also an accessory that prevents the status from being incurred, but that takes up an accessory slot that could be used for other means. The lesson is that you should stock up on MP-restoring items that don't cause anyone to be Drunk.

Mabuchi does strike hard, but he's only and he never really approaches OHKO-level damage on his blows. This is however the case for the next major boss, where I go out of my way to upgrade armour not to be OHKO'd by the main boss.
