1944: The Loop Master - Arcade (2000)
An appropriately "bigger in every way" sequel, this 19xx game manages to be both fun, exciting, and modern for the 2000 audience while also keeping a lot of its original mechanics. I would have guessed that any sequel made at that time would have just dumped the old system entirely, but it's nice to be proven wrong. It has a lot more things happening on screen, though, so unlike 1942/1943 where I could only blame failures on myself, this feels artificially difficult at times. I'm actually surprised just how cramped the playfield feels. Granted, I wasn't looping despite it being in the name and I also forgot all about the charge attack until the very end, but it still feels like maybe it could have toned down on some of the effects to make this look a bit clearer.
