Graeme Souness famously signed Ali Dia but passed on Eric Cantona. Let that one sink in. Souness was offered Eric Cantona by France manager Michel Platini in the early 1990s but his transfer to Liverpool wasn’t completed, as it wasn’t for Sheffield Wednesday. Souness also missed out on the transfer of Peter Schmeichel. Both Schmeichel and Cantona would become supremely successful in England, with Manchester United. They were winning league titles and cups, whilst Souness was signing Ali Dia.
