3 More Sega Genesis Classics Launch On The Nintendo Switch Online with Expansion Pass!
Nintendo has been working hard over the past few months to bolster and improve the Nintendo Switch Online Service, adding games to the SNES, NES, and Game Boy, and now back on the Sega Genesis side of things. Now, to access the Genesis games, you do need to subscribe to the Expansion Pass tier of the service, but if you do, you'll gain access to 3 more Sega Genesis Classics as they launch on the Switch Online with Expansion Pass.
ESWAT:
Released in 1990, It is a sequel to the arcade game Cyber Police ESWAT, sharing characters and plot but featuring different levels and gameplay. Players control Duke Oda, a rookie cop in the crime-ridden city of Liberty. Initially, Duke is a regular officer with a standard weapon and limited resilience. As he progresses through the first two levels, he earns a promotion to the ESWAT (Enhanced Special Weapons and Tactics) division and receives the powerful "ICE Combat Suit."
The ICE Combat Suit equips Duke with advanced weaponry, including a plasma rifle ("Super Shot"), rockets, and a screen-clearing fire attack. It also grants him a jetpack for enhanced mobility, allowing for hovering and short bursts of flight, although with a limited, rechargeable fuel supply. The armor also increases Duke's ability to withstand damage but makes him a larger target.
Super Thunder Blade:
Super Thunder Blade for the Sega Genesis is a fast-paced, third-person shooter and a sequel to the arcade game Thunder Blade. Released as a launch title for the Sega Genesis in Japan on October 29, 1988, in North America on August 14, 1989, and in Europe on November 30, 1990, the game puts players in control of a powerful attack helicopter on a mission to defeat a renegade guerrilla army threatening world domination.
Super Thunder Blade was an early showcase of the Sega Genesis's graphical capabilities, attempting to replicate the scaling effects of its arcade predecessor. While opinions on the game's quality vary, it remains a notable title in the Genesis launch lineup.
Streets of Rage:
The original Streets of Rage, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), is a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up game. The story is set in the once peaceful Wood Oak City, which has fallen under the control of a powerful criminal syndicate led by the mysterious Mr. X. The corruption has spread so deeply that even the police force is under his influence, leading to widespread violence and chaos.
In response to this crisis, three young former police officers – Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Adam Hunter – decide to take the law into their own hands. They quit the corrupt police force and become vigilantes, determined to rid the city of Mr. X's grip and restore peace.
Players take control of one of these three characters, each with their unique fighting styles and abilities. Axel is a well-rounded martial artist, Blaze is a judo expert known for her speed, and Adam is a powerful boxer with excellent jumping skills but slower movement.
The gameplay involves progressing through eight distinct levels, each representing a different part of the crime-ridden city, such as streets, bars, amusement parks, and industrial areas. Along the way, players face hordes of thugs, punks, and various other henchmen loyal to the syndicate. Combat involves using punches, kicks, throws, and special moves to defeat enemies. Players can also pick up and use weapons found in the environment, such as knives, pipes, and baseball bats, to gain an advantage. Food items are also scattered throughout the levels to replenish the player's health.
A unique feature of the original Streets of Rage is the special attack where players can call upon a police car to drive onto the screen and launch an explosive barrage, damaging all on-screen enemies. This special attack has a limited number of uses per life or level, with additional uses obtainable through power-ups.
