Complete In Box Or Loose Cartridges | Which Do You Prefer To Collect?
When it comes to buying retro video games, are you someone who is more interested in simply playing games or do you want something complete in the box? For me, it really depends on what the game is and what my connection or nostalgia to it is. For the most part I am more than happy collecting loose NES, SNES, or Nintendo 64 Games, but things for the Master System and Genesis I prefer having the case at a minimum. But there are a number of games I do have CIB, and a few I have loose I'd like to complete. Let's take a look at several games I prefer to own Complete In Box over Loose Cartridges.
Gremlins 2
This was a game I remember playing at Power Fest, aka the Nintendo World Championships when it was in my hometown of Milwaukee. I loved the movies and thought this was a fun and amazing game, but not something I ever owned. In 2020 I attended the MoGameCon Jr and mentioned my desire to own this game to Mr. Maynard, another content creator. Well he found it at a booth and gifted me a copy.
Super Mario Bros 3
I love this game, and this was something I originally added back to my collection as a loose cartridge. I also have collected a Left Bros version as well! But one of the fun things for me was that I was eventually able to add a CIB copy for Super Mario Bros 3 to my collection several years ago, and I don't think I paid more than $50 for it. It has increased in price since then but I love that I have this in my collection, along with a CIB version for the Famicom too!
RC Pro Am
Much like Super Mario Bros I initially bought this game loose, but I was excited to find a great deal on a CIB version. This is something that I played a ton of when I was a kid, and with my love of RC Car Racing the video games it's a perfect addition to my collection.
Wish List
I really want a box and manual to go with my Tad Stones autographed version of Darkwing Duck for the NES. This is one of my favorite pieces in my collection and I love that I have such a special and unique piece. I'd also like a German box and manual as I bought a PAL imported version back when I was in Germany from AB Games.
