What's The Weirdest Gaming Oddity In Your Video Game Collection?
Over the years, I have collected a number of video gaming oddities for my collection. I have a Virtual Boy, a Nuon, and even a Panasonic Q. While not as expensive as those items, another oddity I have is something that was gifted to me back in 2018 but Ryan at CastlemaniaGames.com. I didn't even know this was a thing before I opened the box from him, that's how weird this is. Let's take a quick look at what is easily one of the weirdest gaming oddity pieces in my collection, Earthworm JIm... for the NES!

Ryan at Castlemaniagames.com was one of our earliest supporters here with RoXolid Productions, helping us out with 10% discount codes for you, our viewers and supporters. Thanks to Ryan, I own one of, if not the most unique versions of Earthworm Jim out there.
A friend of Ryan's named Shauntendo64 makes some amazingly cool repros and compilation cartridges. He made a custom NES Version of Earthworm Jim, and once Ryan saw it, he ordered it and sent it my way. I am floored by this truly unique gift and thankful for the friendship and support from not just Ryan but all of you.
The game itself is actually a ROM hack. "Earthworm Jim 3" for the NES is a simplified, unofficial adaptation of the original Earthworm Jim game, developed by Hummer Team and released without official authorization. It's not a true sequel and has significant differences from the original game due to the NES hardware. Developed by Hummer Team and published by Ka Sheng in 1997, it includes only half of the levels from the original game due to memory and power limitations. The levels included are based on New Junk City, What the Heck?, and For Pete's Sake. Each level is split into two parts with a boss at the end of each half.
Jim's basic moves like attacking with his whip and gun are present. You can switch weapons using the Select button. However, the player is forced to use the whip when jumping and the gun when hanging. The Andy Asteroids level was removed in this version.
The different parts of the levels are mostly distinguished by color palette differences. The game has hidden developer credits, crediting Ming June for programming, Alex Yeu for music, and Y.Y.C. for graphics. Interestingly, Alex Yeu also did the music for Mortal Kombat 3 on NES, and Y.Y.C. is credited in Hummer Team's Donkey Kong Country 4. The game also contains unused music, some of which are earlier versions of tracks from Donkey Kong Country 4.
