400- BST Bug Types vs Radical Red: Surfing Barely By Against Misty
I am doing a relatively casual playthrough of Pokemon Radical Red only using Bug types that have a BST (Base Stat Total) of 400 or less.
Misty is a powerful trainer with around 4 different Pokemon each with a variety of types. Unluckily for them, I get Shedinja, who has Wonder Guard. But just because I have Wonder Guard doesn't mean I don't need to play around the move sets of the others.
Frogadier:
The speedy Frog of Misty with Protean. Oddly, the damage calcs say it should be using Rock Tomb first, but it uses Flip Turn. Because of this, it falls prey to Beautifly's Silk Trap which allows me to lower its speed. I then use Air Slash for the flinch chance. It either works or doesn't, but a 30% gamble is better than nothing. I then used Bug Buzz since it is the highest power move that Beautifly has currently.
Clodsire:
Clodsire is a tank and a poison stall tank at that. Water moves are ineffective due to Water Absorb (not that I have any water moves). Beautifly just has to tank its moves the best it can before I can swap into my own tank known as Pineco. I then whittle it down the best I can without getting it into Recover range and then Self Destruct. Shedinja finishes it off with Shadow Sneak.
Floatzel:
This one is an absolute joke, especially with Wonder Guard. It has no moves that hit Shedinja super effectively, which is odd since I would have assumed it had at least Crunch.
Starmie:
The one Pokemon anyone in our party can handle easily due to its Psychic type. However, it is a poor decision to lower its speed due to its Analytic ability. It's partially why I didn't use Thunder Wave on it when I could. Again, this Pokemon has nothing to do with Wonder Guard Shedinja so it spams Recover for some reason.
My rules are simple:
MGM Mode
Base Radical Red Difficulty
Bug Type Pokemon Only
All Bug Type Pokemon must have a base stat total equal to or less than 400.
