Hey friends! Today we are wrapping up our Swedish Àventyr with three extremely memorable levels -- one based on directions, one based on jumping, and one based on ice.

The first level we go through is Directions, which is one of my favourites from the original version of this hack. This level is what spawned the "quiz show" style gameplay that I love so much about this game, We are taught the four Swedish cardinal directions in both their classic and compass form, and then we are tested on our knowledge with a vertical level full of death pits. It's an awesome idea for a level where you're trying to teach something and I really enjoy the way it's presented.

The jumping level is interesting in design, but I'll just let the video describe it. You'll see what I mean.

The final level is the Ice level, and hoo boy -- this one is a doozy. This level is veering into the realm of Kaizo, which I normally might criticize for being out-of-place in an otherwise standard difficulty hack, but it has been placed on the secret pathway and is completely optional. This is partial Kaizo done right!

Improper difficulty curve is something that a lot of hacks suffer from. There are no hard and fast rules for what's right and wrong in level design, but you generally want to target your hack towards at least one type of person. If you have a really easy hack that has 10 levels with the difficulty of the original Super Mario World, but level #4 in the middle is a crazy Kaizo nightmare, then you've probably balanced something wrong. The people that enjoy the casual hack are going to get stuck and frustrated at level #4 and will probably quit your hack or start cheating, and the Kaizo audience that might enjoy that type of level will have to suffer through something they see as trivial and easy just to get to one level that appeals to their skill level. Even though there's nothing wrong with making easy or hard levels because someone will enjoy them, you can run into problems with splitting your audience in situations like this.

If you want to do split-level difficulty, I highly suggest you take this route with it. No one's going to get stuck unable to beat your hack because a side pathway is unbeatable to them, but the people with above-average skills might be able to create a shortcut. Stuff like this is great for casual playthroughs and even better for speedrunners (although speedrunning hacks isn't nearly as popular as I wish it was :⟹ ).

Anyways, this brings to an end a fantastic voyage through a hack that was fun to play, thematic, and managed to be educational without being boring. If you can do edutainment without it being a struggle to get through, you know you're doing something right, hahah. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all enjoyed watching and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

---[ Hack Information ]---------------

This hack doesn't have a SMWCentral.net page attached to it, and most of the information you need to know about it is in the title -- it's a hack for learning Swedish! One thing to note is that this is version 1.0 and further changes will most likely be made.

---[ Squiggy's ROM Hack Romp Series Information ]---------------

Squiggy's ROM Hack Romp is a series on Super Mario World ROM Hacks. In this series, I will play through SMW ROM Hacks that are submitted to me and that I pull off smwcentral.net. I'll always play the submitted ones first though! Ideally, I will use no save states and do full commentary playthroughs.

I am also happy to accept ROM hacks for any other game, or even a game you programmed or somehow created outside of the ROM hacking world. Basically I love amateur user-created gameplay of any type, and even if it isn't a ROM Hack Romp contender, I'd be happy to play anything you've made and put it in another series!

If you are a ROM hacker or enthusiast, let me know if there's anything you'd like me to play. Whether it be one you made yourself or one you'd just like to see, leave me a comment below or send it over to SendMeYourHacks@gmail.com and I'll be sure to get back to you. Thanks for watching friends!
