Additional thoughts on Starforge/SI/Brand Name PC's
00:17 heads up, 00:48 NVENC, 2:01 mobile viewers, 3:31 rare case examples of brand name/si problems, 4:47 brand name parts can be over-engineered, 6:27 M-ATX, 8:23 shipping costs, 9:11 ITX tangent, 10:11 ending
I thought there was some things that should of been mentioned but wern't. What I said applies to all not just Starforge. Though the Starforge discussion did trigger some of my responses. I put this on the gaming category because the focus is gaming and streaming PC's
Summary:
NVENC is a separate chip on the video card. It is preset to 1080p. Downscaling, turning on Psycho Tuning or the likes will cause it to draw from the GPU. I discovered this by talking to Nvidia staff members. It may or may not be an issue depending on the application
Given that resolutions were mentioned, I decided to bring up mobile viewers. If you don't have the Quality option changer thing on the video player for the platform, you may miss out on viewers. Depending on the mobile device it could struggle with anything more than 720p
Using brand name parts avoids rare case or freaky issues like the one I pointed out with the MSI desktop computer
I also pointed out that some brand name parts are over engineered. I used the Asrock B550M Steel Legend for that example
M-ATX is more than enough for a lot of Streamers or gamers. You can save money using that in the config
On that topic, I did point out the USPS shipping calculator. I would imagine other countries have similar. Brand Names/SI's can use this to get a rough guess as to what the cost would be for M-ATX vs ATX (in terms of shipping)
Someone with a math or market person can take a look but ITX could potentially save on shipping costs even further. However I do not know if the increased cost of an ITX motherboard would cancel out those savings
