00:12 my last GW 2 recording, 00:52 as I understand it, 2:08 going through GW 2 & testing, 3:07 the Microsoft monopoly and why Linux is important, 5:05 GW 2 is not making it easy

When I did my last recording of GW 2, I was noticing a lot of confusion regarding the Steam launch. I didn't understand it full so I couldn't really comment. I still don't fully understand it but I decided to share what little I know.. To try and raise some awareness

TLDR:

As I understand it, the GW 2 client and the Steam client are 2 different things. Arena Net has isolated themselves from Steam likely to avoid the high costs of Steam. Someone can quote me if I am wrong.. I think Steam is a 30% cut. It is a huge cut and Arena Net probally doesn't want to lose money

There is a way to activate the GW 2 client through Steam so you go through there instead of Steam. This is the reddit post I was reading and showed on this recording: https://old.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/wvxqe3/logging_into_guild_wars_2_on_steam_with_an/

I did some testing on my end with the desktop. I was able to get Proton to work. Proton is the software Steam made to make video games compatible on Linux. The Steam Deck is Linux don't forget

I learned through these tests and reading that it isn't easy to do. It is likely that most people will ignore this and go straight to GW 2 client. That presents a problem given the market issues
