During my edit of the previous episode, I had the revelation that perhaps I could take the lock from the barn door and use it as the 3rd lock on the treehouse mechanism! A quick stroll back to the barn indeed finds the barn door lock still waiting for me on the ground. An update to the game automatically puts all locks in the inventory for future players. With that, I have all 3 locks necessary to keep the chains in place by locking the gears. Using the numbers from the bedtime story note found in the cave, I use these to finally unlock the chain ladder and climb my way up the treehouse!
Once up there, it's a magnificent structure that has since been overrun by etchings in the wood. Someone or something has etched a particular symbol on the walls and floorboards. Reminds me of the etchings found in the cave. On the wall, a treasure map may prove to be a useful item in the future. Additionally, a hand radio is found on the shelf, no doubt used to communicate to the parents in the cabin at one time. Using the pocketknife, I dismantle to hand radio. I'm left with the radio aerial antenna and a GBaiti chip. At the very top of the tree house, a spectacular view overlooking the area awaits. But a bloody knife is also found in a wooden box.
Future exploration near the beach reveals a burial site, in which an animal body has been buried beneath a pile of rocks. Stored with it is a note with glyphs written on it and a stone disk, perhaps the missing piece of the dial in the cave.
Using the piece of paper with the symbols, I'm able to enter the correct combination code to the cave door. Admittedly, I had to look this up as it was still a bit confusing but made a little more sense when all was said and done. With the cave door open, I venture inside to find yet another skeletal body, this time with a small metal hoop in its hand. On the other side is a tome. It's a notebook with symbols and glyphs written inside. Some have even been decoded to English.
At the center of the room is a wooden post painted with 3 colors: red, blue, and green. The post also contains a pattern of nail slots, by which nails can be hammered on. The radio aerial attaches to the top of the post. Combining the metal hoop with the binoculars lens from earlier, I form an oculus device. The oculus can then be combined with the map to indeed reveal secrets hidden in the paper. The map shows the correct position that each nail needs to be hammered into the post. Each color has it's own pattern. Once assembled correctly, the option for applying jumper cables appears. Making use of the motorcycle battery comes in handy once again.
But an eerie paranormal voice speaks to me in a foreign language once I power up the post. I try to decode the sentence using the tome, but no luck. I'll need to respond with the correct answer in order to proceed. Perhaps using the note from the burial site holds the answer. But it's not that simple. After some time, I realize I must read the note from the bottom to top. And use process of elimination to determine which verse to speak at one point. But once the riddle is solved, I'm prompted to speak the name of the invoker! And it's not Pete York.
Carrying the battery to the cabin allows me to hook it up to the speaker and power up the ham radio. The GBaiti chip from the walkie fits in snugly to the radio. After finding the right frequency from my collection of notes, I'm finally put in contact with a woman named Mary. She offers to send a rescue helicopter, but first I'll need to find a flare to use as a signal.
