Answer to the question: what does it mean when my smoke or fire alarm continuously chirps or beeps?
In this video I answer the question: what does it mean when my smoke or fire alarm continuously chirps or beeps? If you haven't changed the battery in your fire or smoke alarm in quite some time, chances are the battery is weak and requires replacing. When changing the battery (and if after swapping to the new battery the smoke or fire alarm continues to chirp or beep) between the removal of the old battery and the installation of the new battery, with no battery in the device, hold down the TEST button for over 20 seconds - by doing so you are clearing the error memory of the smoke or fire alarm. Once this has been completed, you can go ahead and install the new battery - provided the smoke or fire alarm is still viable, it should no longer chirp or beep. If after clearing the error memory, the smoke or fire alarm continues to chirp or beep, then chances are the sensors, detectors, or other such components of the smoke or fire alarm are no longer functioning as intended, and you will need to replace the entire smoke or fire alarm in question with a new one. This issue was tested in a First Alert model SA300A Single Station Smoke Alarm.
