Edward reaches Oracoke, a small coastal settlement in North America where Ed Thatch is celebrating his upcoming retirement with Thatch telling Edward that he heard that a man named Roberts is working on a slave ship called The Princess, giving him a clue towards finding the Sage again before Edward notices that one of the pirates is moving away from the party, proceeding to follow him into the woods near the settlement. Once in the woods, pirate proceeds to talk to British military officers there, telling them about the situation on Thatch's party. Continuing to follow them, Edward watches on as they fire a signal flare which is followed by immediate shelling of the settlement by British warship. Realizing that British intend to kill all high-profile pirates gathered at the party, Edward returns aboard Jackdaw and engages the warship in battle alongside other surviving pirates who got to their vessels, ultimately proceeding to board it alongside Thatch. During the fierce battle between British soldiers and pirates at the warship's deck, Thatch is overwhelmed by several soldiers and cut down before Edward is able to help him. As he watches Thatch die, shocked Edward is attacked by one of the soldiers who manages to push him overboard. Upon resurfacing, Edward makes it back to his own ship and retreats into the open waters, still grieving for his lost commrade...
