Ax Battler: A Legend of Golden Axe Game Sample - Game Gear

It's Ax Battler! Well, sorta, and it's Golden Axe on Game Gear! Well... sorta. But who cares right? This is a pretty cool game and it's an adventure title, though it's different from Golden Axe Warrior on the Sega Master System. It's a closer to games like Zelda II in the way it plays. Of all the Golden Axe games out there, this one is probably the least known.
You play as Ax Battler who goes on a quest to recover the Golden Axe (after a hastily thrown together introduction) and you'll have to solve puzzles, talk to NPCs for clues and cool info, and train to develop new special skills needed to either progress or make your life easier. When travelling normally, you travel from a top-down perspective and can talk to characters and search places. The world map features random encounters where you battle an enemy in much the same fashion as Zelda II.
When you enter special dungeons, it's the same as the battlefield stuff, but on a much grander scale. You'll have to kill many enemies and they are the dangerous bulk of your troubles, but must be completed to progress. You can get magic vases to cast spells and they also act as currency to sleep at inns. The game is pretty basic, but a nice title overall for the Game Gear that is a bit challenging in some spots.
