Known as Virtua Fighter Mini in Japan. This game was developed by Aspect who developed most of the GG Sonic games, Ax Battler: Legend of Golden Axe, and Coca Cola Kid, among several other titles (you can tell just by the recycled sound effects between the games). It is also based on the Virtua Fighter Anime oddly enough, despite the fact that the anime didn't do very well in the U.S. and was never fully translated and released in English (24 of the 35 episodes of the anime were translated by Media Blasters but the series was never officially finished due to poor sales) not to mention only the Japanese version tries to be faithful. In spite of that, this game is a commendable effort that lets gamers see another side to some of their favorite VF characters.

This game plays basically like Virtua Fighter 2 for the Sega Genesis, but with nice cutscenes and a plot in which to speak of, though it's slightly altered in the Japanese release (and has an extra game mode not in the U.S. version or so I hear). The characters have many of their powerful moves and ring-outs are still present. The story mode lets you use a limited amount of characters and you gain more as you progress. What the game lacks in features it makes up with a nice presentation, decent music and a straightforward approach. It's worth the few bucks you can find it for but it probably won't move you. There are some differences between the U.S. and Japanese game. Enjoy.
