Tempo Jr. Game Sample - Game Gear

Tempo's pint-sized relative. For those who don't know, Tempo originated on the ill-fated 32X and is touted as one of the finest games for the system. While it was a obscure game in and of itself, Tempo Jr. was actually released in the states as well and is even more obscure. It's the last Tempo game the U.S. would ever get too, unless you're into importing/buying Japanese games, because then you could get the neat Super Tempo for Sega Saturn.
As it stands, Tempo Jr. is a good game in its own right with the obligatory adjustments needed to make this game work. What makes it more amazing in a sense is how it was changed and downgraded from a platform like the 32X to the Game Gear. You can still play mini-games, still turn enemies into coins needed to play the mini-games, you can still kick enemies and shoot notes, your sliding kick was replaced with a forward roll, and the game is still nice and colorful. Some of the changes actually make the game more playable than the 32X game. No disorientating backgrounds and a slower pace with more room for error on the part of the controls would be some of the reasons.
Each level is basically collecting items and getting from point A to point B and you defeat enemies along the way. Tempo himself is very detailed and retains a fair portion of his cool animations. Tempo no longer goes to dance points in the game. Instead, he can dance when his life bar is flashing and you press both buttons, so you can now use your dance when you want. While the idea that it takes half your life sounds harsh, you really don't need much since the game is very easy (it's a Sega Club game, so it's to be expected). You can also awaken flowers on the levels which brighten the area and boost Tempo's mood. The only major thing I don't like about this game, all things considered, is the relegated status of Katy.
