Loaded was one of the first western launch titles for the PlayStation back in 1995. It was an isometric shooter game very much along the lines of Chaos Engine and other British isometric shooter games.

Loaded was a technical showpiece game for the PlayStation,
and it still shows to this day, showing off a large amount of sprites onscreen at once, colored lighting, dynamic lighting, and adjustable zooming at all times being possible by the player.

However, all of this fancy showboating comes at the cost of a stable framerate. As you can see in the beginning of the video, the game originally starts out at 60fps, but as soon as you enter a room with any sprite enemies, that framerate comes tumbling down to 30fps. And as you can see just a few seconds later, it does not settle there, but goes deep down into the 20s and even the mid 10s.

After we show you this quite horrendously fluctuating framerate, we then bring you back to 2018, where you can just set CPU overclocking to 350% and get a completely locked 60fps. And how much more pleasurable it makes the game.

What these excursions down memory lane have made plainly apparent is that a lot of people are viewing the PS1 games library through nostalgia tinged glasses, thinking every game miraculously ran at a locked 30 or 60fps. Only to then load these games with an Internal FPS counter and seeing the shocking amount of games fluctuating wildly from 60fps to 30 all the way down to 20 and even 16fps, all within a few seconds.

It also helps that like other British games like Wipeout at the time, it has a really cool electronic soundtrack.
