Short clip of when I earned the Platinum Trophy in Bioshock on Playstation 3. Read more...

I saved a simple trophy (Avid Inventor; where you must "Successfully invent at least 100 items.") for last so I could record it on my GS4.

I received this game free with the copy of Bioshock Infinite that I purchased. I figured I may as well start with the 1st game, right? I have only recently started getting into first-person games so I am still a little hesitant to fire up a new one.

I started my journey with the intention of doing 2 playthroughs... the 1st was on Normal difficulty.I found this game to be pretty tough right off the bat. I quickly realized this was not going to be your typical shooter (that i've become accustomed to anyway). The game focuses heavily on melee and "magic"-like abilities called Plasmids and Tonics. While you don't really get into the "magic" stuff right away, you have to learn how to defend yourself with your wrench and mobility. The guns you have access to in the beginning aren't that good and I found it awkward to use them.

The game starts slow and difficult IMO. However, once you get far enough into the story to get the research camera, things start balancing out. I struggled on my Normal playthrough... i'm sure it was just getting used to how the game works, learning about the in-game features/"magic"/enemies/whatever and tracking down all the collectibles by searching every nook and cranny. I found all but 7 of the audio files without a guide (so they aren't all that tough to locate). Enemies will reappear in areas so if you do alot of backtracking, you will have a bunch more fighting to do.

The story was pretty interesting (albeit a little confusing during the 1st playthrough) and had a nice amount of surprise throughout. My chief "technical" complaint was the audio. There is a lot of ambient noise in the game and the NPC enemies constantly talk to themselves. It was difficult to hear several of the key story elements over your in-game radio... I would advise turning subtitles on and tweaking the audio settings a bit to make them more more prominent.

The trophy list was a bit intimidating and overwhelming when I started the game. There are some things to consider as far as getting all the Tonics/Plasmids like not upgrading your Health and EVE all the way so you have enough ADAM to purchase all the required Tonics/Plasmids for their respective trophies.

There is a DLC pack available for $9.99 that adds some puzzle-like extra content. There are 3 main "missions" that you can tackle; each have their own trophy requirements and collectibles. I didn't think the DLC was quite worth the price tag but, it was still pretty fun. It played a little differently than the base game so it added to the overall experience.

Overall, I would recommend the game.

Platinum Difficulty: 7/10
Overall Enjoyment: 5/10
