Black Mesa - How To Unlock The Quantum Capacitance Achievement!
0In order to unlock the Quantum Capacitance achievement, you must find the Tau Cannon on Chapter 11 and then charge it until it overheats and hurts you.
In Chapter 11, play through until you find the stairs that go up to the Weapons and Research labs. This is very close to where you can get the Snark weapon. After going up the stairs, there will be some enemies fighting each other in the area. Kill them all. Once they are dealt with, take the first left when the hallway splits (this is right across from the room where you can turn a laser on).
After walking down this path a bit, a yellow beam will shoot through the wall, and you will hear some Scientists talking. Continue down the hallway to the end, and you will see an open doorway wait AUX 02 above it near some black crates. Jump over the crates and enter the room.
Walk over to the pair of smoking boots right on the other side of the doorway and you will pick up the Tau Cannon. MAKE A MANUAL SAVE AFTER GRABBING IT! Once you have the Tau Cannon (and saved), hold the alternate fire button to charge the weapon (I play with an Xbox controller, so for me it is the L2 button). Keep charging the weapon and it will overheat, hurting you in the process, and unlocking the achievement!
Two notes here: The first time I tried to charge it up and overheat it, I had already fired off some rounds, and it DID NOT work. It seems it takes at least 12 energy to overheat, so make sure to do this RIGHT after grabbing the weapon! As for the second note, remember that you can reload your manual save after the achievement unlocks to get the energy/ammo back for the weapon! I don't know how scarce it is, but I know there is another trophy associated with this weapon from looking at the achievement list on Steam (iirc it's killing one of the fish enemies with it), so you may want to make sure to save all the ammo you can if you are achievement hunting!
