The other highlight of the monolith battles, notable for being lengthier than about a minute/turn. I remember this guy really well from my Low Level run in this series' spiritual predecessor, DS's 4 Heroes of Light (the battle in question is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUHzZflt5pM ), and he was something of a pain in the arse there too, albeit I no longer have to kill three members of my party off because exp gain can just be casually turned off like that.

One thing that has changed since then however is that you can't just penetrate the loophole of the constantly changing elemental weakness by casting non-elemental magic - they're all absorbed now, meaning Meteor Rain now won't work at all for a change.

What this means is that damage output drops drastically unless Noble Eagle is used. Since both elemental and physical protection are needed, we'd have to drop Noble Eagle to have Soul Mirror on two support characters at once. However, doubling damage done is such a big deal (because we're nowhere close to hitting the damage cap with summon magic) that I dedicate a sole Soul Mirror setter to use it on one party member instead of all four (there's other stuff they need to do), Blessing Mist allowing the party to constantly return to life should the boss decide to use the physical AoE attack over one of the easily absorbed elemental spells.

Carefully surveying the party's elemental and physical protection is one concern, but what we absolutely ought to take into account is the boss's own elemental properties. It turns out there isn't even a default elemental weakness that it could start with, different attempts resulting in different ones, but since the RNG is still a thing, by not opening any menus or doing anything else that messes with the RNG ensures I will get the same starting weakness of Belphegor each time. From there, I will need to constantly stop and think what the next weakness will be, as he changes it after being hit, even during the same turn. One caster getting sandals for the reliability of going before the other is a must, and while I can somewhat memorise the 2nd turn casting, I may need to look at the menus for a little while on turns afterwards (mostly because summon spell names are so unintuitive for me).

Belphegor will frequently summon spheres during the battle, and these don't do anything dangerous. Their significance is exhausted by taking some hits from Rain Spellcraft in the boss's stead, so they're just a minor annoyance, but they make the fight drag on and force us to be more careful about the timely renewal of buffs on the party.

I'm not sure which of the two Belphegors, this one or The 4 Heroes of Light's, I find the most difficult. I guess this is the less tedious but more complex battle of the two.
