Acerola's trial @ Thrifty Megamart.

Mimikyu is one of the newly introduced Pokemon this gen, notable especially for its ability which allows it to take any attack before it starts taking damage, which is basically a way superior Sturdy. While its OU viability was decently high last time I checked, Mimikyu is also in the focus in an in-game runthrough of the game.

Its typing leaves it with two obscure weaknesses in ghost and steel, neither of which we can effectively exploit here, and it gets a massive stat boost (much like Vikavolt in the previous trial) in stats across the board, yet again the Ancientpower boost pretty much. This not only makes Mimikyu impossible to outspeed (even with Thunder Wave and the like), but makes it both a hard-hitter and capable of taking a lot of punishment.

However, we haven't been losing time either, and we come prepared for this battle. Drizzle Pelippers can now be caught in the wild, and the utility of this isn't just in making Pelipper a notable nuke in the lack of a good mon to attack super-effectively here, but it can also give its teammates a better chance to succeed.

Pelipper's first thing on the field is to destroy Mimikyu's guise. This can also burn the boss, which has a 30% of chance of occurring but isn't any important since Mimikyu happens to be holding a Lum Berry (one thing I like about the totem battles is that so many of them are quite well-prepared for this). Haunter will now come in, and its Hypnosis is the reason Pelipper is holding a Chesto Berry and not Damp Rock or something. We don't touch Haunter for now, as the Gengar that may come in later is much more dangerous (packs Shadow Ball while Haunter is for whatever reason physical).

Pelipper should die pretty reliable on the following turn, getting another shot at attacking Mimikyu with Scald before then.

I have two turns of rain at this point, but I'm not bringing my weapon of destruction yet. Prankster Cottonee needs to come in and use Safeguard, taught to it via TM, so that Haunter can't ruin my plans with Hypnosis and I can expect to win here.

Cottonee will of course fall, as it should, and this is where Wishiwashi comes in. High-levelled and with a +sp. atk. nature, it has an even more powerful Scald than Pelipper's, but since that's still not enough to finish the boss off even with a Mysticwater we go for the Z-Move instead.

Rain should end here, leaving Wishiwashi transformed against the Haunter. Since you don't untransform until the end of the turn, Wishiwashi can afford to take a hit from Haunter and finish off with Scald, not needing the rain boost surprisingly. So as bulky as Mimikyu is, our offence is just that potent with this rain duo.

Wishiwashi may be triumphant, but it's the most up-to-date one to ever appear in this run. Perhaps more surprisingly, I have still not bothered with catching a Gyarados in this challenge, which is bizarre considering it's been one of the most common Pokemon to continuously appear in my runs ever since I did my first one in Pokemon Silver what seems like... 6 years ago? It's been a long time. Anyway, Gyarados doesn't get any right moves for too long, and when it does it doesn't have any good matchups... It's a shame, but also kind of a relief considering catching one with the stats I want would take very long.
