Bravely Second Session 4: Kept Yew Waiting, Huh?
Y'know, because of the time between uploads.
So, it's time to go to Ancheim to save Agnès, but what's this? There's a sandstorm surrounding it! I haven't seen one of those since Cleyra! Well, guess it's back to Al-Khampis to see if anyone knows how to deal with it. Our... "friend" Pudgius suggests we find Professor Norzen, knower of all things arcane. We just have to pop into the academy at night.
And when we do, we see a familiar face: the old astrologer. Turns out, he's this legendary professor who knows everything about magic, and that includes how to stop the sandstorm. That's because he's the one who's causing it. Gasp!
He's got the Skyhold trapped over Ancheim, and his plan is to use the storm to force it to crash and kill everyone aboard. Of course, that also means killing everyone in Ancheim and also Agnès, but how else do you make an omelette? Well, our gang isn't gonna stand for it.
After a battle where he proves his biceps aren't just for show, he yields. He also tells us that we should find some "compass of space and time" in the sea caves to the south before the kaiser can get it. But, suddenly, surprise, there's a spy in our midst, and it's a cat! The fishing girl we met before, Minette, is actually an assassin! And before she leaves, she deals a parting blow, killing Norzen! Oh no. We'll have to get that compass before she does!
...After another sidequest. Kamiizumi has recovered and left a letter for us, asking us to deliver a letter to his pupil via correspondence course, one Gho Gettar. He's gone to work for the Power Betterment Office in Ancheim, and by "work," I mean he's doing intense manual labor all by himself. Does the name Omelas ring any bells? He says was recruited right out of school, where he was studying summoning. And right on cue, everyone's favorite psychotic summoner from Bravely Default, Mephilia Venus, appears to whisk Gho away! We didn't even give him his letter...
After tracking him down to the Miasma Forest where he had conducted his field research, we give him Kamiizumi's letter. The gist of it is, he's encouraging Gho to stick with his job, because hey, it's like his sword drills. Gotta keep at it to get stronger. Besides, he thinks that the difficulty of the work is a sign of how much potential his boss sees in him.
He doesn't know what to do, so he turns to Edea for advice: does he pursue his dream to master a legendary summon, or does he stick to his commitment? Now, I'm more interested in Swordmaster than Summoner, but I also think Gho is just being exploited, and I see no point in him turning a cog all day when his talents and interests lie in summoning. Kamiizumi doesn't take kindly to it, though.
With that out of the way, it's time to head to those sea caves, and... oh no, Minette has beaten us to the punch! We'll have to fight her for it. Oh, and also a lion. I get why a lion might be a concern to normal people, but Tiz and Edea literally fought an interdimensional being that literally devoured worlds! They should be fine!
But after defeating Minette, Janne swoops in to take the compass instead, and Minette gives him just enough room to get away. Again. There's nothing else for it. We'll have to go to Ancheim, get to the Skyhold, and take the compass AND rescue Agnès at the same time!
New job time! The Astrologian is a premier support job. They provide stat buffs and elemental protection, and their innate skill Prescience lets them apply it at the start of the turn.
The Swordmaster is a returning job, and its focus is on counterattacks. With their active abilities, they take stances that let them counter certain attacks for extra damage, and their Multitask passive lets them get an extra free attack a third of the time.
Finally, the Catmancer! I don't care what their reasons were, they should have absolutely called it Nekomancer, and I will die mad about it. Anyway, this is a fresh take on the Final Fantasy Blue Mage. They learn enemy attacks, but they don't cast them themselves, they give cats little treats to perform the attacks as tricks. They're also a solid physical attacker who specialize in axes and knuckles.
Tune in next time for our attempt at taking on the Skyhold!
