Breath of Fire 1 Low Level - Final Boss: Goddess Tyr (part 3 of 3)
An epic conclusion to a very spartan final boss battle.
For those who the video involves, I don't want to spoil the ending of the battle (which is actually pretty long) because it's easily one of the most entertaining boss battles I've ever recorded, but I'll explain some things so that my actions shown in the video are clearer to understand.
First of all, most things in said in the video descriptions of the first two parts apply here, though the state of the party in this video is dangerously fragile as early as one minute into the vid. I didn't see it coming either, so you'll see me improvising and changing my mind very often. I'll try to explain what exactly was on my mind then.
Oh, and the first two parts can be found here:

As I've briefly mentioned in previous descriptions, we're playing in the dark, always selecting commands for four players each turn having absolutely no idea what the boss will do and what consequences we'll face. The items that help to prevent extreme situations - Life2, which unlike easily acquired Life items revive the ally to full HP, are available to us in very finite amounts.
In this video, the inevitable strikes us very early as I check my inventory when I have two party members standing and find just 1 Life2 item. Surely, we can replace them with normal Life items, can we not? Not really. Of course, we'll have the same number of alive people if we use the item but if Comet is used next turn we'll go back to the same number of living people - unless we sacrifice attacking for healing. If we do that, we may as well just retreat and drag the battle for an hour or so, until we run out of items or something. With that kind of psychology we shouldn't be playing challenges in the first place.
It's pretty much crucial that at least one person uses the Star Hammer to cast Comet on the boss each turn.
So once the supply of Life2 is over, we use Moon Drops. One such item is superior to a Life2, because it works exactly the same, only reviving EVERYBODY to full health, not just one ally.
The problem is, we have only 4 Moon Drops and can't gain any more because of the low level limitations. So, imagine, two people are alive and we're close to the aforementioned extreme conditions. If we had Life2 items, both characters would be the revivers.
If we have both characters use a Moon Drop, we'll run out of our supply the next turn, literally. If one character uses a Moon Drop leaving the other to attack... We're either saved or doomed, because if the Moon Drop user gets killed the attacker will be left SOLO.
Since this happens more than just once in the video (I hope you watched the video before reading this, otherwise I just spoilt it), I'll say a few words about switching party members during the battle.
Every turn, without sacrificing anybody's turn, you can switch ONE party member for another. You can switch out a dead ally for a living one too, but you won't be able to switch them back in afterwards.
Our priority in the starting party goes in this order: Ox/Ryu (both can survive a physical if lucky), Nina (acts before the boss when casting healing magic), Bo (inferior to all three). Ultimately, Ox and Ryu shouldn't be switched out by any means, and if we are forced to get rid of Nina we're not only acting in the dark but become blind and deaf.
From the passive party, valuable replacements are KARN and... GOBI. They are most likely to evade the boss's physical blows seeing how their FATE stats great surpass those of Bleu and Mogu.
The boss is very close to dying at the very start of the battle but we have quite a circus in this video starting at around one minute mark and then fluctuating in intensity.
Overall, I'm very fond of the epic ending of this battle and I just wish the rest of the challenge hadn't been much different.
Regardless, it's been fun.
