It's emerged that shots fired at one of the three RAF Hercules aircraft sent in to rescue 150 people entered the cockpit and hit a pilot's helmet. The group rescued included 20 Britons. It was the second such mission for RAF Hercules planes within two days. SAS soldiers are understood to have gone into Libya last week to prepare the rescues - securing landing strips and evacuating oil workers from their camps. Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute to the bravery of the armed forces in carrying out an operation that he described as "not without its difficulties".
