(CCPlays) Cold Waters Dot MOD | Y2K NATO Campaign | Part 32: The Final Torpedo (of this war)
Previously, in the Cold Waters (DotMod) Y2000 NATO campaign, we had just wiped out a PLAN Wolfpack consists of 2 Kilos and 2 Mings.

22-OCT-00 Received priority mission
MISSION: Locate PLAN Xia-class SSBN with escorts, probably advanced Russian subs, sortied from Qingdao, and destroy it and its escorts.
We were just south of Japan, so relocating to the Yellow Sea is simple enough.
23-OCT-00 We have intercepted the enemy group believed to be the SSBN and its escorts.
In only 100m of water, we detected 2 Sierras to the southwest. One faded, the other turned out to be an Akula. I decided to waste a decoy and fired it south, but it may be too far to be heard. From experience, there is probably another sub out there, and the Xia boat itself.
We detected a Sierra 3, but it turned out to be a trawler.
I decided to risk moving at periscope depth as I turned west trying to drag the towed array across the other sub's wake to pick up some sound. Soon we located both Akulas and the Xia behind them. And I am behind all of them.
At a distance of 10 km, and a depth of 61 m (remember, 100m deep channel) I fired 4 torpedoes toward them. An Akula immediately active pinged, but they noticed the torpedoes and decided to run. Just in case they did counterfire I turned back toward the east. I also activated the torpedoes to engage in high-speed pursuit mode.
As the situation developed, it's pretty obvious that the Akulas decided everyone for themselves, and both are sprinting away at 33 kts, leaving the Xia to its fate. Unfortunately, that just means they'll live for a little longer, as I had fired FOUR torpedoes. One took down the Xia, so there are three torpedoes for the two Akulas.
The western Akula was hit by one torpedo but is somehow still alive (but barely). So the second torpedo went in, and this time it's REALLY dead.
That leaves one torpedo for the final Akula. And the torpedo caught up quickly. There also seem to be a few torpedoes heading my way. I went up to 15m and deployed towed array, and noticed a passive torp just passed to the west. And there are two more coming, but nowhere close. In the meanwhile, I manually guided the final torpedo into the Akula and listened to the explosion, and continued to hear it sink and dug a channel into the silt of the channel and ground to a stop.
I checked local ESM, which is clear, so there are no other ships or subs around. I disengaged.
And indeed, that's the end of the campaign. V-Day is declared. China, having lost its SSBN, is forced to the negotiating table at a weakened position.
Personally, 43 days at war, 5 medals, 17 completed missions, including 1 TLAM strike and 2 SEAL insertions. Total sunk: 2 cap ships (Kirov and Kiev), 46 other warships, 47 subs, 9 military merchantmen, for total of 104 vessels sunk for 504000 tons. 5 medals.
