(CCPlays) Cold Waters Dot MOD | Y2K NATO Campaign | Part 29: Interdict Russian-supplied Battlegroup
Previously, in the Cold Waters (DotMod) Y2000 NATO campaign, we had just destroyed a PLAN supply convoy.
-----
17-OCT-00 Received new priority mission
MISSION: Interdict another Russian-supplied surface fleet with possible sub escorts transiting through Sea of Japan toward the Spratly Islands.
Seems Russians still have ships to spare, but I only have 7 torpedoes and 1 decoy onboard, so I made a rush to Guam, get a full load of torpedoes and decoys, then head toward the Spratlys. And it seems we got there just in time, to intercept this fleet
20-OCT-00 Intercepted possible mission target near Spratly Islands.
A merchant was to my west, and the enemy fleet is to the east. Closest enemy vessel to me... Is a Victor III. Yikes. I was thinking about hiding behind the merchant as a meat shield, as it was less than 2 km away. But when Victor III active pinged me, I replied with a torpedo AND a decoy, even as I increased speed to 15 kts as I desperately tried to get behind the merchant. And indeed, two torpedoes, the light circlers, arrived just behind me and went for my MOSS decoy. I slowed to 5 kts and concentrated on killing the Victor III as my guide wire is still intact. And soon Victor III went to the bottom.
With a bit more time, I decided to shoot 3 torpedoes to follow my own MOSS decoy, and will spread out to the three targets from the wreck of Victor III. Sovremenny was first to die, but the torpedo also flushed out another enemy... another submarine! It had to be a modern one... Sierra? Akula? Doesn't matter though. I diverted the torpedo originally meant for eastern Kara toward this new threat, while the torpedo for southern Kara continued. I also fired another torpedo for the eastern Kara.
The southern Kara died, while the torpedo headed north, and that Sierra starting active pinging me, revealing itself to be an Akula... and it's going to run north, while my follow-up torpedo to Eastern Kara has arrived, and I send it that way. I also sent ANOTHER torpedo north in case that one did not finish off the Akula.
The eastern Kara died, but the luck of the Akula looks good as it keep forcing the torpedo to lose lock-on, and it may get away as it has reached deeper waters to the south... Then we finally got a hit... but the Akula is NOT dead. It is hovering there... 473m.
Then it started to sink... past 500m. 600m. 700m.
It then imploded. At least it was quick.
Clean sweep! Mission accomplished.
And the war continues...
