In this episode of GAO R2 (Run 2), we cover topics such as merchants, how to spot and clear infestations, setting up patrols, and fixing damages

It is standard procedure to install many turrets in tractor beam and hangar. Tractor beam usually has at least 5 turrets... 2 below and 3 above. That's not counting the ones hiding in the 4 crawlways blocked by barriers. You will need 8 barriers, 4 for upper and 4 for lower. No critter must escape the area. Hangar would have at least 2 near the ramps up, 2 behind the barriers covering the crawlway entrances next to the ramps, and probably a few more barriers blocking stuff into either side door and crawlways.

CHOOSING EXPLORATION OBJECTIVES: we explored the edges of alpha one, so we were able to accumulate some high-value items such as cable (worth 3 units each) as well as plenty of lower-value stuff like framework and battery (1 unit each) as trade goods. That's another reason I overbuilt storage to the capacity of 260.

SENSING INFESTATIONS: you can often hear and see clues of spore infestation. You can hear squishy sounds around you. And you can see evidence of "gassing" or "shimmering lights" a lot further than the infection of spores itself. And you can shoot at them from a lot further than you think. Use energy weapons for best effect. Ballistic weapons don't do much damage to spores. Flamethrowers are the best, but they can be dangerous due to short range. And you don't always find them.

DANGER CRITICAL: On planets with "Danger: Critical" ratings, the enemies arrive with minimal break in between, and they are often armed with more damaging powers, like inferno with their fireballs, or enemies with high-damage weapons, with their Acid Rifles. They may also be tougher aliens like Rok or Liquid which are resistant to ballistic damage. As you keep fighting, you'll discover tougher enemies. So you MAY need to replace your crew with tougher versions if you can engineer them. HOWEVER, to make them, you need to kill tougher enemies and harvest their DNA, which is easier said than done, of course.

CREW COMMANDS: You can give the crew limited commands, like (Drop Everything and) GET TO THE SHUTTLE! (C, 4) and "Situation Normal, back to work" (C,2) You can also issue limited commands to combat robots to establish patrol routes. Basically, go up to robot, and issue (C,4) ">>" "follow me". When you and it reaches the module you want it to patrol, issue (C,2) "flag" which is "patrol this". You can select up to 3 modules for it to patrol. Once you are set, issue (C,3) "clock" which is "start patrol" and it will walk back and forth between the set modules, attacking any enemies it senses.

DAMAGE CONTROL: Damage to the module's power nodes means the module cannot self-repair that section. If a module lost 50% of its nodes, its condition will start to deteriorrate. Soon you will see the loss of air, and eventually, the whole module will go kaput, and worse, everything connected to it will go kaput as well, and you may lose entire sections of the ship. Go in there and reactivate the nodes when you see damage. Reinforce the module will result in nodes that are harder to damage. You can see this visually as nodes having "shield" over it.

MODULE UPGRADES: most modules have one or more slots to put in upgrades modules, which will have different effects. Most modules can accept "alien tracking" and "workstation". Alien tracking helps you track down aliens that got onboard, while workstation allows you to put one more crew working that module, thus improving productivity. A third module upgrade that's rarely seen is the health station, where it adds a health refill station like on the bridge or in the shuttle.

You recover upgrade modules from planet artifact sites where there's a building in ruins and you can see this green-lit console. Acess it and the module will pop back out. You can also find this in derelict ships where you pull them from where they are installed. However, you need to spot the clues on where they are installed, such as the double-beep (same as when they are installed on yours) or the visual clues like an extra workstation or the alien tracker camera over the door.
