Chrono Trigger Minimum Battles (LLG) Part 4 - 50 Battles to Melphyx
2After defeating Giga Gaia and freeing Melicore we advance to the Kingdom of Zeal to face Dalton. Dalton will counterattack when struck with Iron Orb, which reduces enemy HP by half. The best strategy to beat him is to hit him with your most powerful dual tech and then heal after each attack. The following boss is the Golem Sisters. The Golems will copy whatever element they are struck with and then only use that element, so we can manipulate the Golems into using Water/Ice Magic and using Blue Plate and Blue Vest to make ourselves essentially immune. The only challenging part of this fight is the beggining, as you work quickly with Marle to cast Ice on both Golems. Robo makes a good third party member, as his bulk and healing allow him to withstand the Water magic while Crono and Marle use Ice Sword.
After the cutscene with Queen Zeal. Crono is no longer a member of our party. I recommend using Lucca for her strong Fire magic, and having her get some extra Tech Points to unlock Naplam will help us in a future dungeon. The first fight with our new party will be against "King" Dalton. King Dalton can also be manipulated into using a particular element and will counter attack any elemental attack with the opposite element. I equipped Marle and Lucca with Blue Plate and Blue Vest and had Robo and Lucca use Fire Punch on Dalton. Robo's with Gold Earring has sufficent bulk that he can withstand the Ice Magic, and Marle uses Haste and Healing to support.
Once we reclaim the Epoch and enter the "Time Egg" chapter, we are essentially at the end of the game and can go straight to Lavos's Inner shell for the final battle. However, our current low level party is no match for Lavos and will die instantly to the "Doors of Doom" attack at the start of the battle. So we need to do some side quests. The first side quest is to get Crono back into the party, as he is an essential part of our end game strategy. So we must face the Lavos Spawn. The Lavos Spawns have a powerful Needle attack that does high damage to the whole party. I used both the Gold and Silver Earrings as well as the Muscle Ring to make my party as tanky as possible so that each member survives a Needle attack. Then I attacked the Lavos Shell with Ice Tackle and Fire, making sure to avoid attacking the Shell itself. After 3 battles with Lavos Spawns Crono will rejoin the party.
Even with our party complete, we will die instantly to the Doors of Doom attack. The only way to survive as a low level party is to use the Greendream accessory. This item will instantly revive a user upon death, allowing one party member to survive Lavos's initial attack. In order to acquire this item we must defeat Melphyx in the sunken desert. To defeat him, Marle must use Ice magic to reduce the defense of Melphyx which will allow Crono and Robo to attack with physical damage. Each physical attack increases defense, so we rotate between Ice and Physical damage.
