International Karate, developed for the Commodore 64 by Archer Maclean and released by System 3 in 1986. Also known as World Karate Championship in the US and released by Epyx.

“‘....And you thought you’d seen a karate game.’ Like the martial Arts, perfection is the only accepted standard. So play nothing till you play system 3’s International karate.”

The first proper release on the C64 by System 3 that will become their trademark and be remembered for by C64 enthusiants forever!. For 1986, it's not outstanding but does set itself apart from similar games with its colorful backdrops, sound and music and tactical gameplay. Yeah, there was 'Way of the Exploding Fist' but that game wasnt nearly as memorable.

International Karate puts you in a competition where you need to play through multiple rounds defeating the computer player in order to achieve a Black Belt rating. The time it takes to achieve this depends on how well you are scoring through the rounds and bonus levels. Not much I can say about the game. The moves are fairly easy to pull off but you do need to make sure you are in the right position else they wont connect with the opponent. The game is endless and just keeps going in case you are chasing a high score!

The longplay contains 2 runs. Each side of the original tape contains 4 different locations so the idea is you load whichever side has the stages you want to play. They are not connected in any way and both play exactly the same.
