Chuck Rock, a conversion to the Commodore 64 by Genias. Published by Core Design in 1992 and saw only a limited run in Italy making the game quite rare today.

“Chuck Rock hasn't been the same since his long-time rival in love, the evil Gary Gritter, kidnapped his wife, the beautiful Ophelia. Help Chuck in his quest to rescue Ophelia from the clutches of evil Gary. Kick, throw rocks and belly-butt your way through a multitude of comical zones featuring 500 screens of exciting and addictive gameplay.”

The back of the box is the same as the Amiga version with no mention of Genias so I doubt the claim of 500 screens in this version of the game.

This would have been a late release on the c64 and I'm not sure if I was already on the Amiga by the time this saw it's limited release. I did read the Commodore Format review which seemed to be over hyping it a bit but I’m sure id have bought the game once it hit budget price if I was still using the C64 at that point. It would have needed to be Thalamus levels of good for me to buy at full price.

In the game, you play Chuck and navigate through the levels to reach the end and onto the next level. On your way you find critters to kill and rocks that need picking up and placing to reach higher platforms. You can also use the rocks to protect against projectiles and throw at enemies. At the end over every other level you will fight a large boss which doesn't put up much of a fight. It's the collision detection that ultimately gets you as i'm sure you will see in the video that its seems a bit off.

It's not by any means a bad game, but you don't really feel its pushing your c64 to its limits and the game could have been better. Some extra music and background gfx might have done it. As it stands there is only the title music which is quite well done. Strangely the highscore table requires loading level 1 so even once the game is complete, you need to skip the title screen to enter your name. Overall it feels like it was unfinished or at least not as polished as the devs would have liked, but they had to get the game out while there was a market left for c64 games.
