Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex - Bonus Video: Bonus Hub and 100 Ending
In today's episode of the "Wrath of Cortex" playthrough, we complete all five bonus levels and view the 100% ending.
Upon completing the game, you can access the bonus hub by standing on the platform in the middle of the Warp Room. However, in order to actually play the levels, you're going to first need to collect ankhs by completing the time trials in the game's levels- five to access the first bonus stage, ten for the second, 15 for the third, 20 for the fourth, and a whopping 25 for the fifth. So since I believe that many of the game's stages aren't really built for speeding through, several of the bonus levels can be a pain to get the gems in, and that I was planning on showcasing this feature anyways, we're going to make things much easier on ourselves with a simple cheat.
All you have to do is start up a new game and name your file "wombat". That's right; for your knowledge of Crash's origins, after watching the intro cutscene, you're rewarded with a save file that's 100% complete- all hubs and bosses open, all abilities at your disposal, and all crystals, gems, and ankhs collected. The only downside to this is that you start the game off with only four lives, so if you're not confident in your abilities, there's no shame in going to some of the game's earlier levels to grind for lives.
Though as for the bonus levels, since they're completely optional and similar to ones that we've already completed, I'm only going to go into detail about two of them: "Ghost Town" and "Ice Station Bandicoot".
For the former, it's unique for three reasons: it's the only one where you're in a minecart for the entire time, it's the only one where Crunch is present, and it's the only one where you don't have to touch the controller to beat it. Seriously, thanks to the convoluted route that Crunch takes and the fact that there are no nitro crates on the track, you can win the race by going down the default path. However, if you want to get the box gem, you're going to need to carefully plan your route, but even then, Crunch is more or less there just to be there and won't really pose a threat to you.
For the latter, it's another race, but this time, you have to go through a bunch of rings and reach the end before the polar bear. Unfortunately that's easier said than done because not only are we dealing with the copter pack and its clunky controls, but because the polar bear's bulky and the rings are solid, it's a pain in the ass to get past him. Though on the plus side, at least the polar bear is pretty slow, so with enough determination, you can win the race, even if you have a horrible start like I did.
So with everything collected, all you need to do to view the game's real ending is to defeat the final boss once again.
In regards to my next playthrough, due to all of the turmoil that I went through while getting this one set up and Thanksgiving-related traveling plans, I'm going to be taking a short break for a couple of weeks, during which, I'll be uploading a remix on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As for when my break will end, the first episode of my next playthrough will be uploaded on Friday, 12/15/23.
