Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex - Episode 5: But Coco Refused
In today's episode of the "Wrath of Cortex" playthrough, we complete the game's second castle level, contend with a clunky copter pack, and complete some time trials.
Starting things off, we're tackling the second castle level in the game, "The Gauntlet", which is pretty similar to "Wizards and Lizards", except with no dragon chase section and more traps. Essentially, this stage is the green gem path from "Wizards and Lizards" if it was made into an entire level; and just like "Wizards and Lizards", this stage has a no-death pad, with this one leading to the purple gem. Though if you want to get the purple gem on your first try, don't make the same mistake I did and try to spin into the Aku Aku crate over the pit near the no-death pad. Instead, use your new double-jump ability to hop on top of it.
For our next level, "Fahrenheit Frenzy", like with "H2 Oh No" in the second hub, it's a lab stage that starts off with a clunky vehicle, only this time the lab is littered with fire pits and lasers and the clunky vehicle is the copter pack, which is more or less a poor man's version of the jetpack from "Crash 2". Fortunately, as stiff and awkward as the copter pack is to use, if you're not looking to 100% the game, you only have to deal with it in this one stage and the section that you use it in is very merciful since it's wide-open and doesn't throw too many hazards your way.
So with most of levels in the third hub completed, now would be as good a time as any to show off the time trial mechanic, which is very similar to how it was in "Crash 3", except this time you don't lose your Aku Akus upon starting the time trial. Essentially, you need to complete the level from start to finish with no checkpoints as fast as you can while taking advantage of the time freeze bonus that you get from smashing yellow crates. Fortunately, if you die during a time trial, you don't lose a life.
However, since getting the game's best ending requires you to get a relic in every stage, which includes several that I wouldn't be too keen on potentially repeating several times, I'll only legitimately complete five time trials in order to unlock the bonus hub. Afterwards, I'll show off a trick at the end of the playthrough that makes getting a 100% in this game a breeze.
