Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex - Episode 7: Be Thou the Bandicoot in the Storm of Life
In today's episode of the "Wrath of Cortex" playthrough, we complete the rest of the levels in the fourth hub and fight Crunch yet again.
For our next level, "Coral Canyon", we're taking on the final ocean stage in the game and it's honestly not that bad if you just take things slowly. Arguably, the worst part of this level is trying to get all of the boxes because the first half that features the submarine is very tall, resulting in you potentially missing crates if you aren't constantly sweeping the screen from top to bottom.
Next, we have, "Droid Void", the game's first space station level that introduces two mechanics that I'm not fond of: monkey bars and the mech suit. Regarding the former, for some reason, while the developers improved the ice physics and double-jump from "Warped", they made it where Crash moves at a snail's pace whenever he uses them. As for the latter, it feels cool at first, what with Crash piloting the a robotic suit similar to the one from "Alien" that fires fruit from an arm cannon. However, since you get the fruit bazooka from beating the boss of this hub, all the mech gives you after this level is a clunky jump and a limited arsenal of attacks.
Finally, we have arguably my favorite lab level in the game, "Weather Heights". Not only does this level have a cool atmosphere, what with it being on an airship, it feels very similar to the sewer levels from "Crash 2", what with the corridors and turbines. Plus, you're not forced to complete a vehicle section before reaching the lab itself.
As for the boss fight against Crunch and Lo-Lo, it's my favorite in the game. Sure, the fight feels like a poor man's version of N. Gin's fight from "Warped", what with you using the flying machine to blast Crunch's hands, chest, and face whenever Aku Aku flies over them, but the controls are solid, the music's catchy, and the fight feels like a decent challenge.
