Crisis City, not to be confused with the PlayStation 2 screw-huber game City Crisis, which had a completely different gameplay, was released exclusively for the PlayStation in 1998. Where else? It was developed by Japan Vistec Inc., who also developed the completely unknown survival horror adventure role-playing game called Athena Awakening from the Ordinary Life. Yes, it's the same Athena from the King of Fighters series, which, quite unexpectedly, received its own rather dark spin-off.

The game's story could easily fit on a sheet of toilet paper. In an undefined futuristic mega-city, naturally packed with burning barrels and empty warehouses, a series of mysterious terrorist attacks suddenly break out. An organization with unclear motives has gained access to various facilities and threatens to plunge the entire city into chaos. You take on the role of one of seven armed super-duper special heroes sent by a top-secret organization to save the city. Or at least clean it up before everything blows up.

Each character brings their own abilities, but that doesn't mean they don't enrich the gameplay. Missions consist of combing through buildings, eliminating enemies, blasting through blocked paths, and hopefully uncovering part of the evil organization's master plan. However, you'll be looking in vain for a truly deep story. The few text boxes and on-screen text, all in Japanese, provide only the bare essentials, and sometimes not even that.
