After getting some Sega consoles, most notably the Sega Saturn, I've decided to try the legendary arcade racer port of Daytona USA. I prefer my sports and racing games to be more on the arcade side rather than simulation, so I was quite excited to play this.

This was known to be quite influential. It was first made for the arcades and had a sort of pseudo-vehicle arcade machine for you to drive in. The first circuit was based off a real track, called the Daytona International Speedway. They used satellite imagery, and took photographs of that to make it more realistic. The game was responsible for using 60 fps, texture filtering, and more simulation-friendly driving mechanics like power sliding. There was also adaptive AI, and I actually couldn't tell that that was the case when playing this, showing how effective its subtlety is. The skills of the opponents change depending on how well you do in the first lap.
