DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga #25 - Act 3 Chapter 1 Part 1 COMPLETE
Oh boy, this one was a nightmare, and not even entirely because of the stage mechanics themselves. I had to constantly re-roll the starting turn order which made it so there was gaps of time between my real solid attempts, and I also had a few solid runs where the game decided to crash on me and I'd have to start all over again! This combined with this being a difficult stage led to me almost giving up, but I managed to figure out what I was doing wrong and execute it. I also wasted a lot of time trying Pandemonium and Leviathan as my summons as one of my earliest runs ALMOST won with Diabolos but was just short on turn count. So I thought those two summons could help me optimise damage but it turns out Diabolos was the best pick all along.
This might be one of the last runs I do for a while as I really need to make more time for a personal project of mine and have also been feeling a bit burned out on DFFOO, it's virtually the only game I play now, and that's with me recently getting an Xbox Series X I've barely played. I will probably still do Arciela LC as it's literally tomorrow and I actually think it will be an easy stage, but after that I'm not sure how I will do things. Just know that if the saga does stop, it's on my own terms from now on. That was kind of why I wanted to beat this stage, it would feel better if one of the last runs until Freya LD was a really challenging stage as most stages were easy in the saga.
Freya actually brings quite a lot in this fight. She handles safety with her Jump BRV attack to prevent Breaks, Last Stand, and HP Regen. I also put Nine's C sphere on her recently and it turns out to be really great on her and allows her to personally heal herself more frequently and stay in the Last Stand safe zone. Her auras as always go great with Ramza, and her SPD aura in particular helps get more turns especially since the enemies also have a pink aura that gives them more speed, so any help for getting more turns is great here. Using Reis' Wind and Cherry Blossom on the launches enabled by Ramza is AMAZING in this fight and the bulk of the damage comes from exploiting launches like that. Once we get into the rush down phase of the fight, with tons of buffs on the party and debuffs on the enemy through my equipped CAs, Freya easily caps BRV damage which is great since she has a lot of hit counts with Dragon Breath and Cherry Blossom to exploit it. Honestly, there are LD characters who bring less to the table on this fight, so I'm glad I was able to showcase Freya's potential here.
The biggest bottleneck in the fight was actually the constantly shifting speed on Onion Knight due to his job change mechanic. He is great for this fight in general as he should be, and the boosted stats allow him to function as a dedicated damage dealer here while still passively providing Ice enchant and some auras. However, while Ninja keeps his turn order up and BRV shaves really well, it's only single target and eats up his Ice enchant. Sage fixes both of those issues but then his speed drops HARD, even with Freya's SPD aura and Ramza debuffing with Eneverate. If Onion Knight's Ice enchant wasn't tied to a limited AA or if he constantly had Ninja speed, I actually think this fight would have been a cakewalk with this team, but he has this issue on any team for this fight honestly.
I don't have the space to do a full play by play for this fight in a YouTube description but two tips I can offer that make a huge difference are:
1) Caius LDCA and Jack LDCA are very useful for instabreaking the enemies when their shields are up and then allowing you to shred through them more easily as you will now do critical damage. Jack LDCA only instabreaks one enemy but that's why I put it on Ramza and Caius LDCA on Onion Knight, as Ramza can instabreak with Shout. Krile LDCA ended up not being needed though it is useful for safety purposes in a pinch. Her normal CA is great to use when summoning to call out the friend Ramza and launch spam, as it increases everyone's damage.
2) It is optimal to make sure that when you want to do launch trains with friend Ramza in particular, that at least one of the enemies is in the pink SPD aura and not the yellow DEF aura, and that both enemies have debuffs that make them take more damage. Otherwise, Ramza will not cap on his LD BRV hits on either enemy and you won't get big enough batteries for his launches as the batteries to the party are based on HP damage dealt. Freya's launch damage on the following launches is more consistent though as the batteries on Reis' Wind and Cherry Blossom are based on her own mBRV.
