DFFOO [GL][Sherlotta LD event] Cloudy with a chance of meteor with Lenna, Ramza, Selphie, Garnet fd
A rare GL video, but since this orb has a harsher condition than usual, I actually tried a few comps for this.
Obviously Sherlotta + Selphie is the easy way out and I have got both of them, but there are few others that can help with the orb, so I am going with Lenna with this, whom people may have overlooked because she is C80 still.
Coincidence that we are fighting this robot on both GL/JP at the same time. It also has very similar mode mechanics, so I would just include notable points.
Boss info: King Behemoth + Guardian Robot
Orb conditions: (both max 12)
+2: boss takes 850K+ HP dmg in 1 turn
+2: boss gets delayed by at least 1 turn by effect (only for Guardian robot)
-3: boss takes any kind of BRV dmg
-2: Guardian gets a turn (only for Guardian)
Orb for Guardian is not lethal. It would use Meteor++ to AOE BRV+HP attack you and delete one turn from each party member. The orb for King Behemoth is fatal though.
King Behemoth also has a threshold mechanic at 50% and (20% or 30%? I forgot, I only saw it once when I was admiring how much BRV regen Steiner + Sherlotta + Selphie gave out lol). It would teleport its turn and get 3 turns in a row, and use Mighty Roar as an off-turn buffing move (including BRV/HP regen, ATK up and others). Then it would do Heave, Gyro Tail and Meteor+.
Without mitigation, it is most likely a death at least.
Notes:
The fight is a semi-DPS race (a complete one would be like Ciaran LC/Sephiroth LD raid when the orb has no way of increase). Any attack involving any form of BRV dmg would result in a net loss in orb count for King Behemoth at least. If the attack has a delay effect, it can be still be a positive gain for Guardian. Guardian is more of an impediment then an actual threat, the orb deletes your turn but the orb attack is not fatal and only deals very little dmg. An alternative to setting up the scene would be to dump all the attacks onto Guardian, then delay + heavy attack it to increase the orb and use splash dmg to defeat the bosses.
King Behemoth's orb and candidates for tackling it:
So the problem is the King Behemoth. The only way to gain an upper hand on its orb is to use attacks are heavy hitting but has no BRV dmg. Examples are Selphie's launch, Sherlotta's LD/S2.
Lenna, though still a C80 character, has her LD/HP+ as her most dmging spammable attacks that has no BRV dmg as well. With a bit of HP dmg cap up, she too can hit above 850K with just normal HA. So if you don't feel like pulling or using Sherlotta, she can be quite a convenient party member. Besides, she can provide additional BRV/HP dmg up support so the hits are actually dealing full dmg.
In terms of members with BRV dmg, Ramza with aura/cap up/launch and delay is no doubt a very good member. The delay is mainly for keeping the orb on Guardian in check so that your turns don't get deleted and the bosses get a -2 on their turns. Similarly, someone like Seifer with 6 HP dumps on EX/LD or Garland off-turn delay when participating in launches would be a great candidates. Then other hard hitters like Enna Kros/Cid Raines/Tifa/Machina would be the ones that can surely hit pass 850K.
I even got Papalymo to work once. Since there is no limit/downsides to how many turns you can hog with Selphie/Sherlotta skill spam, he can accumulate a lot of Polyglots for free and be doing 1m+ consecutively. Though the initial sprint may be rough because he immediately has 2 turns up with a EX. Sticking with Ice would mean no unnecessary orb count loss due to AOE.
Do note that while Exdeath can be used here, only a few moves actuall do no BRV dmg. He is famous for breaking the targets but he still does BRV dmg. Also if you allow the bosses the move, his Maelstrom Vortex debuff sucking BRV away from the boss is a form of off-turn BRV dmg, and can "off-turn deplete" the boss orb for you.
Similarly, off-turn dmg would do the same.
Cait Sith LDCA also has no BRV hits, so it is a pretty good buff CA for Ramza BT, battery and getting a free hit in. Its famous effect is limited to members using attacks with BRV hits though.
General Strat:
Employ explosive dmg with HP dmg cap ups. Target the Behemoth first and kill it with a summon phase or BT phase before it hit 50% to avoid the threshold turn teleportation attacks, so you don't even need a protection CA for this fight. Keep their turns at bay and they will cause you no trouble.
Off-turn dmg
While off-turn dmg are potentially harmful to the orb, it is not a problem within the confines of the BT/summon phase. Feel free to get those free hits in to boost your dmg and kill them faster.
