DFFOO [JP] Chaos letting Minwu and Cor do most of the work
Have quite a few more ideas, but I think at this point I am about to become a notification spammer. So last one before a new proper event (Beatrix IW I think?).
This is mostly a more passive oriented off-turn dmg experiment with Chaos. It was to get a feel of how well Jack can mash with some of the off-turn dmg characters.
For the record, I still think Jack is more suitable for a more proactive playstyle. Though I would say with some difficulties, you can still make him work with passive off-turn dmg dealers.
I was going to try this with Beatrix, but since Minww is a pretty good character to go with him, I went on ahead and did this first.
The problem with Jack and passive off-turn dmg:
It is the break recovery. Passive off-turn dmg relies on enemies taking turns, so for one, Shinryu era enemies love to recover from break with certain moves, or they like to teleport multiple turns over. So it can get unpredictable with break recovery management.
The idea:
Since they can get really unpredictable or easily recover from breaks, the easiest solution is simply ... not let them act but let their turn pass.
Arciela didn't make it into the main team, but I did use her CA to stop the enemies from attacking. With sufficient boss knowledge, I locked them to the moment that they try to spam AOE, such that Cor would proc the maximum amount of preemptive strikes every time their turn comes up.
Wakka's CA is good for Jack's mBRV and his LDCA, though a gamble, also has a chance to inflict confusion on the bosses. So it is quite convenient to put it on Jack as well.
Since Jack's contribution to the off-turn dmg is based on the his -BRV and the number of HP dumps, we want to double down on the off-turn strat. Here for Cor I specifically let him put his Oath buff on both Minwu and Jack using the Friend Sub trick, so he can maximize the number of HP dumps and Minwu's FR at the same time with 3 sets of preemptive strike on enemy turns (targeting ALL). He would also move when both Minwu and Jack move.
Since both Cor and Minwu (obviously no as much as Ramza, but still respectable) giving mBRV to Jack, you can get an additional 300K+ on each HP dump. So with so many more off-turn procs now, you can get additional millions by standing there each turn.
There is always some gaps that Jack cannot come back, break them and put -BRV on the bosses in time. Unless you use someone like Aphmau or Rem who can pull him over, there is inevitably some loss that you have to accept. We can do our best to anticipate which turn they recover, but with FR pushing thresholds, sometimes even there is an element you cannot control. That's also why I think Jack is generally more suitable for proactive play imo, like having some high HP-dumps per turn character BT with -BRV on (looking at Tifa/Seymour etc).
I think he still brings value and can be effective in passive off-turn dmg oriented teams. Though I would say it requires more commitment to the strat.
