DFFOO [JP][Meme Run] U4-mania, no FT turn hog until boss dies with Agrias BT ft. Lightning, Papalymo
Something I enjoyed a lot back in Lufenia era was using 2 turn hoggers. Now that RE-shinryu sees the return of orbs and no boss FT, this playstyle is once again more viable especially after Agrias BT has been released.
As long as your characters are capable of overcoming the 2 healing threshold mechanic, withstand boss FA and deal with the orbs, you can practically do this in any RE-Shinryu. While Memoria Battle bosses have a large HP pool and thus make Agrias quite desirable, remember that they are Shinryu stages and still have their FTs intact. For the record, so far 4 out of 4 bosses FT includes a 100% HP recovery effect. So no FT hogging there does not make sense. Same applies to 6WQ (wherever they disappear to lol), but 6WQ does not always have the strict recovery effect.
The goal for this run is simple. Kill the boss with Agrias BT follow-up while Lightning and Papalymo get 95% of the turns, while remaining within the completion parameters for HP dmg taken and turn count.
I have put D3 on Agrias for her to slow down and take less dmg.
Agrias BT follow-up guarantees to at least shave off 1% of boss max HP at a time, so worst case scenario you need 100 attacks to kill them. Obviously, normal attacks still chip away their health, so in reality it is much less than 100 attacks.
With turn hoggers, you can keep the turn count in check while keeping Agrias BT active. You can also substitute her turns with Crystal Ability 3, though I didn't even have to do it in this run.
More details and micromanagement below:
U4-Mania?
Buff Extension
Both Papalymo and Lightning EXs are very desirable. Both of them extends buff duration. Having Hope CA buffs is good for face tanking boss FA that fires regardless of disability, so even though the two of them consume a lot of turns, the buff extension keeps those buffs alive. As you can see, I didn't even need to use Despair (well I used once in the end just to finish it) to refresh the buffs since I got lucky.
Besides, their EX give them the ability to get more free turns (Papalymo has no AD and get 1 Polyglot, which means even more free turns and Agrias off-turn; Lightning EX rebreaks and heals, so more consecutive turn for her). They are also the most dmging moves. They more turns they get, the more U4 dings, the merrier.
One thing to look out for though is Papalymo also has an Enochian stack counter, you don't want to get trigger happy and overflow the Polyglot count either. Sometimes you need to spend those before popping another EX.
Also because of the Enochian counter for free Polyglots due to field turns, more Lightning turns or enemy turns also means more Papalymo turns. It is a very self-sustaining system honestly. That's why I really like hoggers alongside Papalymo lol.
Friend?
Selh'teus does not even need to be there. Though I intentionally let them have a few turns for some free Polyglots at the start, so Selh'teus with an additional gravity HP poison (also 1% mHP) also fits the bill.
The unfortunate thing is I don't have Papalymo BT on main, so an additional 10% dmg is lost. The boss does reduce debuff duration by 1T when they (or it, technically) fires off a FA. However, golden debuff does not get affected. So Papalymo's debuff would stay there forever and that's a free 10% DPS gain. Note that gravity HP dmg is not affected by this, so don't expect Agrias reduce the boss by 1.1% mHP.
Summon?
The whole point of summoning is just to further reduce turn count and stuff the Leviathan blessing onto Agrias until the end. It is a free 20% cap for her and there is an dmg based BRV refund effect. Since she is not intended to move, that is an optimisation you can do.
For this reason, I avoided using A3 on Agrias (10% cap increase and more HP dmg in exchange of getting -2T buff duration each turn). I wanted to squeeze out as much DPS as possible in the second half. Boss FG charges even faster when their HP gets low, so killing them faster there is more desirable. That's not something people would pay attention to because of 1FT kills, but it is something worth noting with this playstyle.
Small adjustment I did here was that I did not use Penelo CA when she started the summon phase. That's because the starter of the summon phase does not get the blessing buff turn depleted. In the same vein as using CAs after Snow's preemptive strikes though, the duration does deplete if you do that. So I avoided using that when Agrias first summoned Leviathan.
The rest is just managing the dynamics between Lightning and Papalymo. Funny how Papalymo got so many turns with Lightning BT on as well. Hogging with 2 BTs on is just even better. Use Cid Raines CAs to dispel the healing aura, and BT phase with Lightning when the LDCA is still active to maximise DPS.
It has been really fun to return to this style. Maybe I will do one with Vayne or Shadow one day. I will probably try out some Memoria Battle later this week (not without FT ofc).
