Can We Find A Nintendo Switch 2 At Best Buy A Week After Launch?
I was pleasantly surprised at the relative ease I had in getting not one, but TWO Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles at launch. I was able to get a pre-order at both Walmart's website, along with in person at Gamestop. Best Buy, however, much like Target had many issues with the website when the preorders went live. I've heard good success stories, however, since the launch. I was also at a game convention over the weekend and saw systems remain unsold. That makes me wonder if the supply chain for systems isn't keeping up with demand? Let's take a look and see if we can find a Nintendo Switch 2 in the wild at our local Best Buy.
I went over my lunch, not a super packed time for sure. By going at this time I was hopeful that the store would be pretty dead, which it was.
Walking up to the front door I was really digging all the signage that they had laid out for the new system. Nintendo really did a great job in partnering with Best Buy. Inside the store they had a number of additional displays that also looked fantastic. As I got closer to the area of the store with video games, I saw the Nintendo end cap and started to investigate.
The glass showcase which normally held the original Nintendo Switch, the Switch OLED, and the Switch Lite only featured Switch OLED and Switch Lite consoles. I looked around the rest of the department to see if there were systems possibly hanging out anywhere else. Looking back inside the glass showcase I saw the price tags for both systems, the Switch 2 and the Switch 2 with the Mario Kart World bundle. Unfortunately, this showcase was empty. I found an employee and asked if they had any open stock. They indicated they did have open stock initially, but they had since sold out. The good news was they expected more units before the end of the month.
While in the store I took a look at some of the other accessories that were on display. And when I say on display, I mean very few accessories in a largely empty display. There is a new accessory line which I believe is a Best Buy proprietary brand called NEXT, and they had things like Pro Controllers and screen protectors. They had a few accessories here and there, they also had the official Nintendo webcam for the Switch 2.
On the back side of this display was where the games were supposed to be set up. Overall this section was fairly bare, they had a single row of games on display and that was it. Understandable as they're simply aren't many Switch 2 games to be had at this point in time.
Having struck out at Best Buy I ran up the road to our local Costco to see if they had any systems. Unfortunately, they were also out of stock, however, they did have a ticket that you could take to the front desk for one lonely Switch 2 Pro Controller.
