What Happens When You Use Switch 2 Games & Accessories On Switch OLED?
Comparing the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 has been a hot topic, with discussions spanning everything from their docks and displays to their Joy-Cons. While many wonder which original Switch accessories will carry over to the Switch 2, I'm curious about the reverse: what Switch 2 accessories will work on the original Switch? Specifically, I've heard some Switch 2 game cartridges might be backward compatible, and I'm wondering if the Switch 2 Pro Controller will be too. Let's find out what happens when you use Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and Switch 2 Games on a Switch LED console in today's YouTube Shorts episode!
Game Cartridges
It's widely rumored that if a game launches on both the original Switch and the Switch 2, you should grab the Switch 2 cartridge for dual compatibility. But what about titles exclusive to the Switch 2? I popped my copy of Mario Kart World into my original Switch, and, as expected for a Switch 2 exclusive, it immediately threw an error.
Pro Controller 2
While the game cartridge result wasn't a shock, the Pro Controller 2's incompatibility with the original Switch was a bit surprising. It largely resembles the original Pro Controller, just with shifted indicator lights, a headphone jack, and a new chat button. Yet, I couldn't get it to pair with my original console.
What truly floored me was its complete failure to work even when hardwired via USB. I fully expected it to at least register, but no luck. It seems Nintendo made a deliberate choice not to enable cross-compatibility here.
Were you surprised by these findings? Or is this what you anticipated from Nintendo? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
