4Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade longplay on another shmup on the Neo-Geo, Aero Fighters 2/Sonic Wings 2.
Description of the game:
Aero Fighters 2/Sonic Wings 2 is a vertical scrolling bulletstorm shmup by Video System Co and published by SNK Corporation in arcades in July 1994, making it the first game in the series to be published on SNK's Neo-Geo MVS system board. It was ported over on the Neo-Geo CD in September 1994 and re-released on PlayStation 4, XBOX ONE and Nintendo Switch in August 2017 and on the iOS and Android in May 2022. The game features Tenukie Chaudo, a boss from Rabio Lepus as one of the possible final bosses encountered, replacing Osura who was the predecessor's final boss.
Sometime ago, a wicked organization schemed to destroy the world, but were perished by the 8 pilots. 2 years later, another unknown army appears out of the blue, occupying the world. The United Nations Peace Keeping Force step in to intercept the attack and discover that the super weapons used 2 years ago still exist. The question that remains in their minds: "Can they be the same organization that was destroyed before?"
The gameplay mechanic remains the same as its 1992 predecessor. The game is now longer than the previous game with an increased amount of 10 stages (2 of them act as bonus stages). Unlike its predecessor, players can freely choose between 8 pilots rather than being assigned by selecting 4 of the 8. Each pilot has their own attack capabilities. Destroying some of the large enemy ships drop power-ups that upgrade the ship's shots. Upon reaching the maximum level, the player's shot will level down after a brief moment of time and can be reached again by obtaining another power-up item. In addition to shot upgrades, bombs can be earned to clear the screen of bullets. Taking a hit or collisions with enemies destroys the ship and reduces your firepower to the weakest level. After clearing 10 stages, the player will have to take on them again on a more aggressive difficulty.
