https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/d-f/dodead The 1990's called, they want their edge and their shotgun back, jokes aside the late 1990's were a time for Doom with the community pushing out many classics, with 1997 producing not just Requiem, Hell Revealed, The Talosian Incident, Eternal Doom, STRAIN, and Mordeth but also this 9 level episode replacement by Jan Van der Veken which placed at 6 out of ten for the top 100 wads of all time in 1997.

Dawn of the Dead was released on June 15th 1997, The entire 9 maps are unique for a 1997 mapset as they are all focused on the Episode 1 techbase theme that Knee-Deep in the Dead cast in stone back in 1993. Jan's mapping style heavily is inspired in my opinion by John Romero's style while using his own detailing to create something different, there's a odd bug where Blue key doesn't appear in E1M6 if you are on low difficulties so perhaps thats a strange error that was missed.

Dawn of the Dead's ammo placement is a bit low so you'll need to make your shots count, Do not waste your shotgun shells as the shotgun pickups aren't as common vs other Episode 1 replacements, and E1M8 will be a master class test of your ability to strafe when under fire from every direction and you have low health. Another solid hit from the 1990's.
