DuckTales 2 (NES) Playthrough Part 1 - Niagara Falls and Bermuda
[Difficult Mode]
A well deserved sequel to a worthy predecessor, although I have a bit more complaints on this one than the first DuckTales game, it's still fun to play and captures the similar spirit of the original and the TV show. It lacks in TV show references, and for the most part feels more like its own continuity. it's a shame this game was under appreciated at the time, due to the rising popularity of the Super Nintendo.
The graphics are vastly improved and more colorful than the first game's, and the characters have a slightly enhanced color palette giving characters more dimensions, including portrait perspectives during dialogue exchanges. The music is well done, though not as memorable as the first game.
My biggest nitpick is the context continuity, and by that I mean, why does nearly EVERYONE address Scrooge McDuck as UNCLE SCROOGE? Even Launchpad, Gyro, and EVEN Bubba of all characters. "Uncle Scrooge" is best reserved for the nephews and Webby. The rest should be:
Launchpad: Mr. McD
Gyro: Mr. McDuck
Bubba: Scooge!
Flintheart sorta could fall in this category, I hear him call Scrooge more often as "Scroogie". The narrative of the Lost Treasure of McDuck is a nice touch and adds some more intrigue to the game than the near non-existent one in the first.
Huey at one point says Great Scott, when in actuality, the nephews should say something what I believe is "Quack-a-rooney!"
Puzzles in the game are enhanced by the ability to latch onto hooks, likely a trait Scrooge borrowed from Darkwing. Cane enhancements also contribute in addition to short puzzle segments like the one in Egypt. Unlike the previous game, stages can be revisited infinitely without the need of Launchpad's ride back to Duckburg... I mean "HOME"; possibly a gameplay trait taken from Mega Man 4
The game is easier due to the addition of a shop which money can be spent to buy items unlike the first game which used it primarily to determine score and the ending. DIFFICULT mode in this game ups the original's ante by replacing ALL heal-ups with diamond pick-ups, making healing via a store bought Cake the ONLY way to recover health in a stage.
Jumping back after getting the Hammer Adaptor from Gyro is pretty awkward, about half the time, either the ceiling stunts the jump or Scrooge doesn't make it at all.
