Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers (NES) Playthrough Part 1 - Zone 0 ~ Zone D
[All Zones Completed]
Following the success of DuckTales for the NES, Capcom and Disney decided to develop another platformer based on the TV show's sibling series which was equally popular in its own accord. This was also a successful project and one of the few to incorporate simultaneous 2-player co-op mode in a platformer. Picking up and tossing crates (including the other player) was really fun to do... figuratively. Ability to slide the crates, toss them straight up and hide in them were neat, intricate design choices that added more liveliness to the gameplay. The crate hiding is a great way to shield damage and dispatch any foe that comes to contact with the crate, even enemies that require 2 hits.
Strangely enough, all but Monterey Jack really plays a role in the team. Chip and Dale are self explanatory, Gadget helps the crew via cutscenes similar to Peach's Super Mario Bros. 3 Intermission letters, and Zipper acts as temporary invincibility and homes in on all onscreen foes. But, Monty himself only appears to bust through a wall when you expose cheese. Not looking too resourceful, especially with him lacking his jacket and pilot cap. For someone who is the strength of the team, you'd think he play a much larger role than this.
The environments all play cleverly to the perspective of the small creatures and lends itself to some really creative and amazingly diverse locales. The only one that is recognizable to some extent is Zone G which from the TV show is Fat Cat's casino. Professor Nimnul's robotic dogs and his giant cat catcher electric generator make an appearance, but the evil doc himself doesn't ironically. There are a fair share of other references to TV show elements, but not as much as the DuckTales game.
The P bottle item always stumped me to exactly what it is suppose to do, until I read online that obtaining it, makes the respective chipmunk strong enough to lift an apple or log with ease.
Maybe someday, all the Capcom and Disney titles will be released for Virtual Console.
