You can increase your space savings by enabling the file folding option in Data OnTap. When you enable file folding Data OnTap will check the data in the most recent Snapshot copy, and if it is identical to the Snapshot copy currently being created then it will just reference the previous Snapshot copy instead of taking up more disk space writing the same data. Disk space savings occurs by sharing unchanged file blocks. Since data has to be analyzed when this option is enabled there is a slight trade off between performance during snapshot copies, and space utilization.

options cifs.snapshot_file_folding.enable on . .
