In this Factorio episode, we greatly expand the area our factory, and set up a third science factory to reach 750 science per minute!

Between episode, I spent nearly 14 hours clearing out biter bases to the west of our factory. I began to wall this area in, and was about 1/2 way done walling it in at the start of the episode. This is all to secure an area to build more science factories in and to secure ore patches needed to feed those factories.

Also between episodes, I continued work on the solar and accumulator field. I wan't giving it my full attention, so there were periods of time were it wasn't being expanded. Even so, it is up over 2 GW of power generation!

I begin building a third science factory, laying it out in the area I'm walling off. I begin to scout out good ore patches to mine, when I notice that our previously build ore outposts seem to not be running and trains are backing up there. I decide to investigate that, since it seems to be effecting out ability to produce science.

It seems the the outposts have run out of steam, which is how they are powered. Tracking that back, the steam trains are fine, but the nuclear power plant that the get steam from is out of steam! This is because it is out of fuel cells.

It seems that when I designed and tested the outpost factory, I was having all the items produces, and then destroyed, to test that the factory could produce at the rate I wanted. This included uranium ammo for the gun turrets. However, in actual use, I'm not using anywhere close to the amount of uranium ammo that the factory is designed to produce. Because of this, there isn't much U 235 being produces as a byproduct of making U 238 for the ammo. The factory was relying on that U 235 for making the fuel cells for the reactor for steam, but without a large amount of ammo production, we couldn't produce steam.

The fix was relatively simple, set up some koverex processing, and bring in U 235 from our kickstart factory, so that we can produce U 235 even without ammo being produced. Once this was solved, and steam was being produced, we would have to manually power the mining outposts at least until the waiting trains cleared enough for a steam train to re-supply the outpost with steam.

We solved this problem, but took most of the episode to do so. We'll have to finish up the science factory in the next episode!
