Playlist of the challenge, updated each new video. See the description of the first video for general info and details on this run.

Arbaroc is one of the earliest bosses many players will remember having quite a bit of trouble with.

For one, Arbaroc is fought with a party of animals who have lower stats than usual. To make matters worse, Arbaroc has several multi-target attacks, including two spells and one special, and seems to resist damage very noticeably. His Thundaga spell can also paralyse some of the targets. He gives plenty of people a hell of a hard time for those reasons, at much higher levels even.

But I must mention reasons why we were very well-prepared for this boss battle in this challenge. People who know this game inside out will have to excuse me for the detail in the next section, as I try to make the strategies in my videos understandable even for those gamers who may not have played the game.

Most importantly, Jusqua and Yunita liberated the town of Urbeth which opened several opportunities for party growth in almost all areas. Let's have a closer look:

* the party unlocked the Merchant and Salve-maker classes by showing Demon where he belongs (see earlier video).

Merchant is especially important as it allows us to steal gems from monsters without killing them. Before Jusqua goes solo again, we make one character a Merchant (for Finder/Keeper skills) and another a Wayfarer (for Runaway/Escape). This works very simple now: we run around the map, steal gems and escape. This can be done any time there are two people in the party. Any gem is available this way at this point besides Diamonds, though some are quite a lot more difficult to find than others.

* Thanks to the gems, we can master any crown up to lv. 2, gaining valuable new abilities. We can also upgrade equipment, which is important because Torte will have to solo the end of the battle against Arbaroc meaning we want him equipped with the best upgraded armour we can access.

I went with Maximillian here, a piece of armour available in the Liberte Wireless shop. All towns have Wireless shops which sell unique items for BP (battle points). You earn 5 BP for each normal battle and 300 (!) for each fallen boss. In a low level game, we still get plenty of BP through storyline bosses, more than enough to buy an armour for 1K BP.

All Wireless armour starts with unimpressive +2 defence/magic defence, but with each shop upgrade increases by either +2 defence/+1 mdefence, +1 defence/+2 mdefence, +1 defence/+1 mdefence/+1 evasion, depending on the armour. A Maximillian, when upgraded to the initial max of +9, goes up to +20 defence, +11 mdefence which is way better than any store-bought armour at this point.

We only need one maxed piece of Wireless armour, because in the second half of the game storebought equipment will be much better for the purpose of this challenge, I'll explain it in greater detail then.

* Finally, the minigame in Urbeth is an endless source for money, meaning we will never struggle to buy the things we want again. Just buy a pair of Burning Harps, put them into one node, and wait for a customer to buy them for 5K each pair. You make 3K each pair and potentially 9K per each shopping session. I figured 300K Gil would be enough for me, it later turned out I didn't need nearly so much.

So, Arbaroc's strength lies in his multi-target attacks, magic and high defences.

How do we defend? Black Mages have a cool Mirror ability in this game, which is basically what we know as a full party Reflect. The bosses have lower offensive stats than defensive, meaning they won't hurt themselves much at all, but at least we won't have to worry about dying in a single turn. The boss starts going mad with magic around the third turn when he flies up in the sky, and we have more than enough time to set up Mirror before then.

How do we attack? Salve-maker has a lv. 2 defence-ignoring skill in Poison Pill, which uses an item on an enemy for a reversed effect, meaning restorative items will deal damage. He also has the favourable ability Dispensary which will conserve all the items for 4 turns, not wasting any when used. Remedy does 100 damage each use which is far better than any physical or magical attack at our low levels.

The problem is ending the battle with Torte solo, who is a temporary guest about to leave the party. Equipped with a Maximilian, he is hard to penetrate, but he doesn't do much damage when left without support. As you can see, doing enough damage was hard here, though with a cape protecting against paralysis, it was just a matter of time until the fearsome enemy would fall.
