Defeating this boy is usually the best thing to do if you want to get Lux, the ultimate white magic spell, for most of the second half of the game. However, when I rushed to beat this boss before facing Mammon, I couldn't beat him. Not because of his attacks, but rather because soloing him is hard when he recovers HP more quickly than you damage him and he can also make matters worse by putting you to sleep (and we want that accessory slot occupied by a Flame Cape to block fire-elemental attacks entirely).
I spent quite a bit of time upgrading armour at this point. The upgrade limit is fixed at +9 until you get a piece of Orihalcon from floor 80 in one of the bonus towers (which I'm seriously considering seeing how I'll be ridiculously underlevelled for the final battles), and with this limit in mind, some normal store-bought equipment is actually better than any Wireless armour. Paladin Armor, for instance, boosts defence by 20, magic defence by 14 when upgraded to +9, and also provides a +20% HP boost. This will be my armour in most of the battles. The Armor of Light, which we acquired by beating Mammon, provides better magic defence and boosts offensive stats but at the expense of HP.
Our strategy for Belphegor is generally simple, getting tricky at the end. We want to kill the Cube minions around him, reduce him to critical health and then have everybody besides one character die.
The tricky part is that Belphegor can put us to sleep with his physicals, and that he likes curing himself when injured.
This is why I gave my surviving Salve-maker a dagger that paralyses the enemy sometimes. Hopefully, the boss gets stunned and doesn't move, allowing me to deal enough damage to kill him before he can counter by healing and sleep. And this does happen eventually.
