MBO = Mandatory Battles Only
MBO implies that the game is completed with as few battles finished as possible. There are no restrictions as to how the experience from mandatory battles is distributed and divided between party members. The challenge is played from a new game, not a new game plus.

Fighting Antlion in this challenge is not awfully different from how you'd face him in a normal game. The only difference is in the measures taken to ensure the party's safety; after all, we're not levelled-enough to survive one extra attack here.

Edward should hide, never to return, as soon as the battle starts. There's really no need for him to gain levels and become stronger in this challenge (during the Mom Bomb sequence, he has to Hide anyway and his stats aren't important), but he's of absolutely no use to the party seeing how the boss takes him out in one hit. Just stand there defending? I think not.

Just to remind you the basics of this fight, Antlion constantly changes "modes" in the duration of this fight. You can easily tell what mode he's currently in at any given moment by the colour of his eyes. When the eyes are white, he'll counter all physicals (Cecil's in practice); and when they're red the counter will be triggered upon magic being directed at the boss.

Cecil and Rydia (equipped with the best stuff since she still doesn't survive much even after all the levels gained from the Octomammoth boss) take turns, one of them attacking the boss and the other healing. Cecil attacks with physicals and heals with Potions. Rydia attacks with an Ice Rod (the boss is weak to ice) for no MP cost and heals with Cura. They make a lovely duo.

Darkness on Cecil is worth considering but its effectiveness is questionable when the boss takes less than two turns to switch to the different mode, and the status will run out too quickly. So it may not be a good idea to speed up the battle since more turns will be spent activating the status rather than actually hitting the boss with powered up attacks.

Antlion is also susceptible to poison, so the sooner that is inflicted the better.
